New Projects
On August 21, the 2024 Major Projects Groundbreaking and Production Commencement Ceremony for Chongqing (Banan District Sub-site) was held at the site of Hengan’s Phase III Tissue Paper Capacity Expansion Project. The total investment for this expansion project is 2 billion RMB, which will fund the construction of four new tissue paper production lines. It is expected to bring Hengan over 100,000 tpy of additional production capacity.

Recently, C&S Paper announced that the construction and final inspection of the first-phase tissue paper production line of its 300,000 tpy bamboo pulp and paper integration project in Dazhou have been completed. The completion of this first phase will help the company accelerate its market share expansion in the southwestern region of China, while also enhancing the overall production capacity and promoting a balance between production and sales.

China’s Shanxi Yungang Paper plans to add 120,000 tpy of tissue paper production capacity
Recently, Shanxi Yungang Paper Co., Ltd. announced its plan to build a new intelligent manufacturing project with 120,000 tpy of tissue paper. Once completed, the company's total tissue paper production capacity will reach 340,000 tpy. The raw materials will be sourced entirely from purchased market pulp, and the project plans to add four 3550/1600 new crescent tissue machines along with other supporting facilities.
China Shanxi Yungang Paper TM10 successfully started paper production
Recently, Shanxi Yungang Paper Co., Ltd. has successfully started up the TM10, which is a new crescent tissue machine supplied by China Shanghai Qingliang Industry Co., Ltd. with a width of 3,550mm, a design speed of 1,600m/min, and capacity of more than 25,000 tpy on a single machine.

Baoding Xinjie Paper and Baoding Hongsheng Paper started new crescent tissue machines supplied by Baoding Changda
On August 10 and 14 respectively, Baoding Xinjie Paper and Baoding Hongsheng Paper started new crescent tissue machines 3550-1300, supplied by Baoding Changda Machine. The tissue machine has a width of 3,550 mm, a design speed of 1,300 meters per minute, and a single-machine production capacity of 20,000 tpy.
China Baoding Zhongxin started new crescent tissue machine 3550/1500 supplied by China Weituo
On August 13, China Baoding Zhongxin successfully started the tissue machine with a width of 3,550 mm and a speed of 1,500 meters per minute, supplied by China Weituo Machinery. The tissue machine has a production capacity of 30,000 tpy and features an energy-saving, breathing-type air hood and a multi-stage turbulent headbox, both independently developed and manufactured by Weituo.

China C&S Paper successfully started TM1 and TM2 in Dazhou, Sichuan
On August 3, China C&S Paper celebrated another significant milestone at its base in Dazhou, Sichuan Province. Following the start-up of the first Valmet IntelTissue 1600 tissue paper production line, TM1, on June 13th, the second production line of the same model, TM2, supplied by Valmet, was also successfully launched. The tissue machine has a width of 3,500 mm, a design speed of 1,600 m/min, and a single-machine annual production capacity of 30,000 tpy.
China CHTC Jiahua Nonwoven Co., Ltd. put into operation high-end breathable film production line
Recently, China CHTC Jiahua Nonwoven Co., Ltd. announced that in 2023, the company invested 160 million yuan in two custom-order biodegradable antiviral breathable film production lines provided by Reifenhauser in Germany. These lines have been gradually tested and put into production. The breathable film produced is only 0.01 mm thick and has good breathability while being waterproof, which can be used as a new material for manufacturing high-end products in the medical protection and hygiene fields.

China Hubei Jinnuo new material project breaks ground in Xiaonan
China Guangdong Jinqichang’s No.1 nonwoven production line put into production successfully
On August 9, Guangdong Jinqichang New Material Co., Ltd.’s No. 1 nonwoven production line put into production successfully. The entire process, from installation to commissioning and finally to full production, was completed smoothly.
On August 8, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Hubei Jinnuo new material project took place in the Xiaonan Economic Development Zone. Once completed, the new material capacity will reach 200,000 tpy. These products will be mainly distributed to the Central, South, and East China regions and will supply packaging materials to tissue paper and hygiene products companies such as Vinda, Hengan, Gold Hongye, and C&S in China.

China Hengan International achieves revenue of 11.836 billion RMB in the first half of 2024
In the first half of 2024, Hengan International Group Co., Ltd. achieved a revenue of 11.836 billion RMB, a slight decrease of 3.0% year-on-year. The profit attributable to equity holders of the company increased by 14.9% year-on-year to 1.409 billion RMB. Among the business segments, the sales revenue from tissue paper and wet wipes decreased by 3.1%, although it still outperformed the industry average; the sales revenue from sanitary napkins decreased by 2.2%; and the sales revenue from diapers grew by 7.0%.

China Baiya Corporation achieved revenue of 1.532 billion yuan in the first half of 2024
Chongqing Baiya Sanitary Products Co., Ltd. reported operating revenue of approximately 1.532 billion yuan in the first half of 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 61.31%. The net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company was about 180 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 36.41%. The company focused on leveraging its resources to promote brand development, continually enhancing its brand strength and product capabilities.

China’s import and export of tissue paper and hygiene products in the first half of 2024
In the first half of 2024, China’s tissue paper continued to show a trade surplus trend, and export volume increased significantly. The import volume of absorbent hygiene products and wet wipes continues to decrease, while the export business maintains growth.
The export volume of tissue paper increased significantly by 31.93%, reaching 653,700 tons, and the export value was US$1.241 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.45%. The total export volume of absorbent hygiene products reached 724,000 tons, with an export value of US$1.985 billion. The total import volume of absorbent hygiene products is decreasing year by year, and its impact on the industry continues to decline. The total export volume of wet wipes is 396,600 tons, and the total import volume is only 12,500 tons. China’s wet wipes production capacity not only meets domestic market demand, but also has high competitiveness in the international market.

In the first half of 2024, China’s tissue paper industry added 693,000 tons of new production capacity, with a notable slowdown in its capacity growth in the second quarter
According to the research from CNHPIA, from January to June 2024, the industry added approximately 693,000 tons per year of new modernized production capacity, with a total of 31 tissue machines, including 29 domestic and 2 imported machines. Among them, 428,000 tons per year was put into production in the first quarter and 265,000 tons per year in the second quarter. The capacity growth in the second quarter showed a significant slowdown both quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year, resulting in a decrease in the capacity growth in the first half of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023, when 810,000 tons per year was put into production.
In 2024, the industry plans to put into production modernized production capacity of more than 2.2 million tons per year. The actual production capacity that has been put into production in the first half of the year only accounts for about 30% of the planned production capacity for the whole year. It is expected that some of the remaining projects planned to be put into production within the year will still be postponed.

The price of pulp and tissue parent roll in major regional markets of China in July 2024
According to the research data from Tissue Paper & Disposable Products magazine, the average price of pulp in major regional markets in China generally declined in July 2024. Among these, Hebei saw the largest decrease in the average price of imported bleached hardwood pulp boards, followed by a significant drop in the average price of bleached bamboo pulp boards in the Sichuan-Chongqing region, with both prices falling by over 450 yuan per ton.

In addition, the formulation of this specification fills the gap in safety standards for tissue products for infants and children.
