Michael Aram is an award-winning American Armenian artist who has dedicated his career to craft-based design. Inspired by a trip to India at age 25, he established a second home and studio there, where he continues to draw creative inspiration today.

Daphne
According to Greek mythology, Daphne's transformation from a river nymph into a laurel tree began as she escaped the advances of Apollo. Her arms extend into branches as she becomes one with the earth.
Nature is his biggest muse, as is the handmade process. His work combines the imperfections innate in the handmade process with the perfectly imperfect beauty of nature to create objects that reflect humanity. Many of his pieces are ingrained with a rich storyline, inherent symbolism, and deep-rooted meaning.

"I felt like I slipped into another world when I first went to Giverny. Monet considered the garden his most beautiful masterpiece, and when the nasturtiums carpet the Grande Allee in late summer, it's easy to see why. The entire grounds are transformed into a truly sublime, lucid mosaic of shape, texture and color."
Monet's Garden Golden Sunset is inspired by the brilliant, fading light at Claude Monet's garden in Giverny. The gardens Monet designed at his atmospheric country home contrast and complement one another, and are captured here in the sculpts throughout Aram's collection.

Michael's fascination with a particular type of ginkgo tree , the Ginkgo Biloba, or "Butterfly Ginkgo", which grows with a double leaf reminiscent of a butterfly's wings, gave rise to a fantasia image of the plant.
Executed at the highest level of handcraftsmanship, each piece is rendered in solid brass with hand etched cocoon-shaped vessels. The pieces in the collection are a tour de force of the handcrafted process, capturing the poetic spirit that is so deeply indicative of Michael's work.

"The first time I saw this tree, it literally looked like it had been completely overtaken by butterflies... as if they would all take flight the moment I walked too close or made a noise. The idea that the leaves could evoke the beauty of butterflies was magical to me, like trees that can metamorphose from flora to fauna in the blink of an eye."

Originally the site of Michael’s NYC studio, the converted store now holds the full line of collections. "I grew up around pomegranates - from their use as natural dyes on the antique rugs I used to crawl on as a baby to an integral ingredient in the food that I love. When I'm at my home in New Delhi, I wake each morning to the taste of fresh squeezed pomegranate juice. The color, the smell, the delicate flavor all make it feel like a magical elixir to me."

After The Storm Side Table
Reminiscent of Jackson Pollock's artistic technique of splattering paint onto his canvas, Michael Aram introduces After the Storm, a collection created by dripping hot molten metal over formed curves and flat planes. After the Storm is inspired by the pervasive sense of calm one feels when a storm has come to rest. It is the celebration of the serene afterglow; the moment when the sky clears, the breeze is soft, and the streets are purged by the receding rain.
"A few years ago there was a big storm that I watched from my window. The torrential rain hit the window, spattered, and dripped down my windowpane. Once the storm finished, a mixture of curiosity and cabin fever lead me outside to explore the wreckage left in the wake of the storm. Branches were downed, leaves and mud combined into sludge caught in the storm drains. There was something beautiful in the newly formed clusters of natural elements which had been pulled together by the storm. I wanted to capture that sense of unpredictability in the intensely spontaneous flow of natural material in each piece."

“What I enjoy about these furniture pieces is that in a way they are 'slices' of nature, small vignettes of the forest. It is fascinating to imagine the outside world infiltrating my interior spaces, as if the room is being gently consumed by nature."

The Ocean Reef Collection is inspired by the bounty and beauty found on the ocean floor. The ocean is symbolic of freedom and limitlessness, and coral represents renewal and strength. Coral reefs are also associated with healing, transformation, and refuge in the face of change.
Dream' takes its inspiration from a well-loved children's book that has special meaning in Michael's own life and home.
DREAM
"This sculpture is probably the most personal of all for me. It is inspired by a children's book called Papa, Please Get the Moon For Me' by Eric Carle, which is a bedtime favorite in my house. In the story, a girl dreams of dancing with the moon and her father begins a wondrous journey to bring it down to her. It's a simple but magical story that reminds us all to dream...that in the world of our imagination, all things are possible. In my work, I chose to put a pillow and Piggy' (my son's favorite stuffed animal that he can't sleep without) in the bed, suggesting that, while dreaming the entire bed transforms into an immense ladder...tall enough to reach the moon."

The simple forms create objects that serve wonderfully as stunning individual gifts or an exuberant table setting that decorates an entire moment of your life. The theme itself captures all the most distinctive aspects of Michael's work - narrative strength, deep symbolism, and extraordinary sculptural expression.
"The olive branch has always held a powerful meaning for me representing both peace and victory. In designing functional objects with natural forms, there is a mingled sense of fragility and intensity. For me, it is like nature spreading through my interior spaces - like a magical olive grove sweetly willing its way into my home."

Dogwood COLLECtION
The Dogwood Collection is inspired by the beautiful flowering tree, native to North America. Dogwood, as interpreted in metal, is enhanced with white enamel petals while its branches are finished in oxidized brass. These artful pieces integrate well in traditional and contemporary settings.

"I wanted to capture the drama and beauty of the dogwood tree as I remembered them from my childhood. There is something significant and tender about the mix of bronze branches and soft hued blossoms."

This collection is inspired by anemone flowers, which in some cultures are said to bring good luck and offer protection. The flowers are associated with purity and peace.
"For me, there is a beauty and gracefulness inherent in anemones. The curving stems and vibrant blooms are feminine and deeply alluring."

The Mistletoe Collection captures the spirit of the holiday season. Mistletoe, an evergreen that flourishes year-round, evokes the idea of renewal, vitality, and romance. In creating the collection, Michael was inspired by his love of nature, and fond memories of family celebrations spent around a beautifully set holiday table. Both personal and symbolic, this collection celebrates the beauty of nature and the importance of crafting memories to last generations.
"I always use evergreens in my holiday arrangements as a way to honor the memory of my family and our traditions. Throughout my childhood, my parents would always incorporate mistletoe into their holiday decorations, bringing nature indoors, while adding to the beautiful memories of a home filled with joy, peace, and most importantly, love."
The Black Iris Collection is inspired by the vitality and beauty of the iris flower. Named after the Greek word for rainbow, the idea of a "black rainbow" feels oxymoronic and mysterious. Michael Aram uses contrasting oxidized and polished brass, as his way of doubting the question of whether there is such a thing as an iris which is truly black in nature.
