In 2019, Yinxing Hospitality Management College of CUIT (Yinxing) firmly chose "internationalization" as its own mission and development strategy, vigorously promoted disciplinary integration with Hospitality Management and Tourism Management as its core areas, sowed the seeds of hope and expected a bumper harvest.

In this year, Yinxing has formulated a comprehensive strategic goal and implementation plan for internationalization. The President personally took the lead, with the help of the Vice President, promoted the internationalization and globalization of Yinxing. In addition to the school-level management organization's full commitment to globalization, Department of Human Resources, Department of Finance, Department of Teaching and Research have promoted internationalization as their own work. Yinxing has established an incentive mechanism for teachers and students to participate in global engagement activities, and set up special funds, to encourage all teachers and students to fully participate in international exchange activities and enhance the awareness of internationaliza-tion.

In this year, Yinxing has made remarkable progress in five aspects in terms of inter-nationalization: Curriculum Development, Course Design, Faculty, Teaching and Learning Modes, and Teaching and Learning Activities --

Curriculum Development: Yinxing invited consultancy team from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (The PolyU) and its teaching hotel "Hotel ICON", senior management from Cornell’s teaching hotel, the Statler Hotel, as well as experts from Swiss Education Group to form a curriculum development committee to systematically build the theoretical knowledge framework, hands-on skills framework and professional curriculum framework.

Course Design: Yinxing has introduced high-quality online resources such as those of The Hong Kong PolyU and the University of Queensland in Australia, combined with the off-line courses of American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AH & LA), to create a number of Signature Courses delivered by Star Teachers in English or bilingually.

Faculty: Yinxing has been making great efforts to introduce faculty members with international vision and overseas study/work experience, while guiding teachers to participate in international academic activities and encouraging them to obtain international professional certification. Yinxing provides financial and resource support to teachers to jointly publish papers on high-level international journals and work with scholars worldwide.

Teaching and Learning Modes: Yinxing works with senior executives in the international hotel brands to conduct in-class and extra-curricular joint teaching on-campus and in hotels through flipped learning, blended learning and other teaching modes. The Nanxi Campus in Yibin, launched on December 30, 2019, has three world-class teaching hotels under constructions. Through the integration of international standards and Chinese characteristics, the teaching, research and training mechanism for hospitality management education has been reconstructed to establish the Yinxing Standard.

Teaching and Learning Activities: Yinxing has set up a special office to guide and help teachers and students to participate in internationalization activities -- the Global Engagement Center (GE Center), which is equipped with professional program managers to conduct consultation and management of internationalization projects. By leveraging the position as the important fulcrum of opening to the south of Nanxi Campus in Yibin, Yinxing actively explores in-depth cooperation with ASEAN universities. For example, Yinxing has signed MOU and MOA with prominent hotel schools like Prince of Songkla University and Dusit Thani College in Thailand in such aspects as mutual visits between teachers and students, joint teaching, co-research and top-up program collaborations, etc.

Chair Professor Kaye Chon, Dean of SHTM, and program management team warmly received the delegation. The two sides held discussions on the construction of teaching hotels in Nanxi Campus, developing internationalized programs, teaching faculty development, introducing online course programs, etc. A strong intention of cooperation was agreed. 

On January 18, 2019, China Ginkgo Education Group was successfully listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, becoming China’s first listed education company in 2019. The raised fund will be used for the construction of the new campus in Nanxi.

Gingko Education Group is the parent company of Yinxing located in Sichuan Province, focusing on nurturing professional personnel for China's hospitality industry. Gingko Education Group and Yinxing are committed to cultivating talents with sound knowledge suitable for the modern service industry.

On January 17, 2019, the delegation of Yinxing, and Strategic Consultant, Mr. Richard Adie, who served Cornell University’s teaching hotel, The Statler Hotel as General Manager for 18 years, paid a visit to the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Preliminary discussions were held regarding the establishment of a cooperative relationship.

On March 6, 2019, a delegation led by Ms. Shirley Chen, Director of College-Enterprise Relations from Marriott International Group visited Yinxing. Chairman Fang Gongyu, senior management team of Gingko Education Group and Yinxing participated in the reception. A meeting was held and chaired by Vice President Wei Zhao.

Chairman Fang introduced the new campus in Yibin to Marriott International Group and proposed a plan for further cooperation. Ms. Shirley fully affirmed Yinxing's achievements and expressed appreciation for the Yinxing's ideology of nurturing high-quality professionals for the development of hotel industry with distinctive features.

To further improve the quality of practice teaching for the hotel management major in Yinxing, Dr. Tony Tse, Professor of Practice of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, delivered a lecture on the topic of “Practical Knowledge of Hotel and Modern Service Industry: Resource Building and Application” on March 30, 2019. Dr. Wei Zhao, Vice President of Yinxing chaired the seminar.

Dr. Tse took Hotel ICON, the teaching hotel of SHTM as a case study and explained its major functions in functionality design, operations and management, teaching and research and service learning. Combined with the development of the university, he analyzed the teaching and research functions of the "Hotel ICON" and its important role for SHTM.

After the lecture, Dr. Tse and the teachers of Yinxing discussed on the value and contribution of training hotel to practical knowledge in teaching.

On May 22, 2019, the First APacChrie & EuroChrie Joint Conference and the 4th Global Tourism and Hospitality Conference were held in Hong Kong. The theme of the conference is "East Meets West in Hospitality & Tourism Education", aiming at sharing frontier research, building a platform for cooperation, guiding the development of education and leading the future of the industry.

The joint conference is the largest and most influential international academic summit in the field of hospitality, catering and tourism so far. It has held more than 500 keynote speeches, theme forums, editors-in-chief forums of international academic journals, round-table discussions, school-enterprise dialogues, industry forums and other venues. The conference has attracted nearly 800 participants from universities, enterprises and governments from 42 countries/regions around the world. As one of the strategic partners of this conference, the delegation of Yinxing and Gingko Education Group launched extensive discussions with the attendees, established contacts with leading hotel and catering management schools and tourism management schools worldwide, promoted the brand of "Yinxing Hospitality Education".

The Delegation of Yinxing and Gingko Education Group

The Sichuan Provincial Department of Education publicized the results of the provincial-level first-class majors of 2019, and two majors in Yinxing namely “Hotel Management” and “Tourism Management” were approved.

The approved two majors in Yinxing focus on the main line of "serving regional development with high-quality teaching and research outputs in hospitality and tourism domain" based on Yinxing’s featured internationalized curriculum and programs as well as its three world-class teaching hotels.

Yinxing is building a platform for the integration of theoretical knowledge, hands-on skills and professionalism, continuously strengthening the construction of major connotation, and innovating the personnel training model.

In recent years, Yinxing has closely followed the strategic development needs of the cultural and tourism industries of China and Sichuan Province, comprehensively promoted the reform of hospitality education, actively adapted to the industrial transformation, optimized the main structure and reform and the teaching and learning model. Community needs and industry demand have been taken as orientations to deepen the university-industry partnership, and steadily improve the quality of education. 

‘Hotel Management’ and ‘Tourism Management’ Obtained Provincial Awards of Leading Majors

On the afternoon of June 5, Ms. Yalin Fan, the China Admissions Officer of Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland (hereinafter referred to as EHL) visited Yinxing and gave a special lecture entitled "Entering the World-famous School-Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland". Students from the Department of Hotel Management and the Department of Tourism Management attended the lecture.

Ms Fan shared EHL Group's global layout and strategic development starting from EHL's 125-year legendary history. In addition, she encouraged students to challenge themselves, break through bottlenecks and develop global vision.

Founded in 1893 in the western part of Switzerland, EHL is the first hotel management school in the world which is famous for its rigorous academic studies and its emphasis on the combination of tradition and modernity.

On September 5, 2019, Dr. Prathana Kannaovakun, Vice President and Dr. Pornpissanu Promsivapallop, Dean of Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management (FHTM) of Prince of Songkla University of Thailand (PSU), visited Yinxing. The President of Yinxing, Mr. Li Ming, warmly welcomed the guests.

First of all, President Li Ming welcomed PSU’s delegation on behalf of Yinxing. Subsequently, Dr. Fu Jing, the Vice President of Yinxing, explained the strategic development of internationalization of Yinxing, demonstrated the achievements obtained.

Dr. Prathana and Dr. Pornpissanu introduced Prince of Songkla University and its Department of Hotel and Tourism Management respectively.

The two parties reached cooperation intentions on student exchanges, curriculum matching, credit recognition, international curriculum development as well as joint teaching and co-research projects in the field of hospitality and tourism.

A Visit from Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School, Australia

On September 17, 2019, Mr. Raffael H·Stangl, the Asian Representative of Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (Blue Mountains), Australia, visited Yinxing. Mr. Wang Junjie, Acting Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office received the guests.

Wang Junjie expressed warmly welcome to Mr. Stangl and his team and introduced Yinxing. Mr. Stangl expressed his gratitude for the reception and briefly introduced Blue Mountains and its partnership in China.

The two parties held in-depth discussions on the continuous program, short-term exchange program for teachers and students. Through communications and discussions, the two sides have initially reached an intention to jointly build a platform for friendly exchanges and cooperation.

Mr. Richard Adie, the Strategic Consultant of Gingko Education Group and GM of Cornell’s Statler Hotel for 18 years, initiated the dialogues on the theme of “Preparing the Next Generation of Hotel Professionals”. GMs from nine international hotels such as the Temple House, St. Regis, Hilton, Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Sofitel, W Hotel etc. joined hot discussions with Yinxing faculty on how hotel schools can work seamlessly with the industry to nurture students’ sense of pride in work and how to cultivate innovative management talents that meet international standards and Chinese characteristics.

This Round-table Seminar aims to deepen the understanding of industry’s trends and needs, broaden the horizon of faculty and curriculum reform, and pave the way to Yinxing’s internationalization and professionalism.

The Former General Manager of Cornell’s Statler Teaching Hotel Visited Yinxing

On the morning of September 30, 2019, Mr. Richard Adie, General Manager of Cornell’s Statler Hotel for 18 years and strategic consultant of Ginkgo Education Group, visited Yinxing and conducted a research on the practice teaching in Department of Hotel Management (DHM). Mr. Richard Adie was received by Dr. Fu Jing, Vice President of Yinxing, who accompanied him throughout the visit.

Mr. Adie visited the smart hotel labs of DHM. In Classroom 2505, Mr. Adie shared his valuable experience on what a hotel industry is, how to cultivate professional identity and sense of pride, and how to achieve work-life balance with students of DHM. At the same time, Mr. Adie took Cornell’s students as an example to encourage students to discover and make good use of their strengths, thinking and planning career paths from subtle work. Mr. Adie spoke highly of students' language competencies, sense of professionalism and standardized management of the laboratory.

Mr Adie agreed with the mechanism of practice teaching and international development strategies, fully appreciated the aptitudes and attitudes of Yinxing’s students, and he is confident that they will become elites leading the development of the Chinese hospitality industry in the near future.

Later, Mr Adie visited the Simple Café, which was mainly operated and managed by students. He discussed with the management team and some faculty of DHM on the deep integration between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. He acknowledged Yinxing's efforts on utilizing a cafe, a real work place as a practice teaching mode, where students can integrate classroom-teaching with best practices. This teaching mode allows students to engage in the whole process of operating a cafe, which is as significant as the teaching hotel in Nanxi Campus. Mr. Adie acknowledged that the theoretical and practical courses of the hotel management major of Yinxing have been steadily advancing towards an international direction, and suggested that attention should be paid to a Ginkgo brand.

The

Visited Yinxing’s New Campus in Yibin

On October 9, 2019, a team led by Chair Prof. Kaye Chon, Dean of School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) visited Yinxing and its Nanxi Campus in Yibin City. Dr. Fu Jing, Vice President of Yinxing accompanied the guests.

Coming back to Chengdu, the SHTM delegation provided very positive feedback and had productive discussions with Yinxing senior management team. Dean Kaye Chon expressed his strong recognition with Yinxing’s concept of building the Nanxi Campus and would like to further cooperate with Yinxing to lead hospitality management education in Asia and contribute to the talent cultivation of global hospitality industry. President Li Ming expressed his gratitude to the SHTM team and highly praised the professionalism and dedication of the team. Afterwards, the two parties conducted in-depth discussions on improving the functionality of the first teaching hotel, the development of curriculum and diversification of courses.

From October 27-28, 2019, the International Conference on Tourism and Retail Service Management, jointly hosted by College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management of South Carolina, College of Tourism and Service Management of Nankai University, and the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, was held with a theme of "Opportunities and Challenges for Tourism and Retail Services in the New Era" in Tianjin. Dr. Zhao’s paper was awarded as one of the top five papers of the conference. She happily shared the honors with researchers from tourism and hotel schools of Sun Yat-sen University, Hong Kong Poly U, and the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies. 

Yinxing is committed to the development of internationalization, which strongly encourages teachers to participate in high-level academic activities at home and abroad, to further enhance Yinxing’s visibility and reputation.

Between November 12-15, 2019, Li Ming, President of Yinxing led a team and visited Thailand. In Phuket Province, President Li and Dr. Pun Thongchumnum, Vice President for International Cooperation of Prince Songkla University (PSU) of Phuket Campus signed a university-wide Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), under the witness of Deputy Public Health Minister of Thailand, Satit Pitutacha. At the same time, the Directors of Department of Hotel Management (DHM) and the Department of Tourism Management (DTM) of Yinxing signed a School-level Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) of PSU.

Deputy Minister Pitutacha said that he attached great importance to the signing of the PSU's academic cooperation MOU with Yinxing, and was pleased to witness the signing ceremony. He believed that the agreement concluded by the two universities has effectively enhanced the cooperation between China and Thailand in various aspects such as teacher-student exchange, cross-cultural communication and academic research. Dr. Prathana Kannaovakun, Vice President for Academics of PSU witnessing the event, spoke highly of the philosophy of Yinxing's teaching hotel, and expressed his appreciation for Yinxing's achievements in discipline integration and internationalization. VP Kannaovakun hoped that PSU would join hands with Yinxing to promote cooperation and exchange between the two schools and the two countries.

In addition, Yinxing visited Dusit Thani College (DTC) in Bangkok. Apart from MOU signing, the program leaders of both sides had productive discussions on proposals of credit recognition, students exchange, teacher visits, joint teaching and research etc. The discussion has created more opportunities for the exchange and study of Yinxing teachers and students and made Nanxi Campus an important platform for both sides to carry out research and training programs.

After the strategic MOU signing between Yinxing and Swiss Education Group (SEG), a Summit & the International Forum on Hospitality Management Education was successfully held from December 2-7, 2019 in Yinxing. Led by Mr. John Daly, Director of Teaching Process of SEG and Vice President of International Center of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), the SEG team were warmly welcomed.

On December 2, The Yinxing-SEG Summit was held. Senior management team led by President Li Ming of Yinxing presented. President Li Ming gave a welcome speech to express his appreciation to SEG guests. He emphasized that Yinxing has always adhered to an open mind and heart to a global world.

The academic internationalization is based on mutual respect and understanding, equal exchanges and cooperation. SEG delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm reception of Yinxing. Mr. John Daly expressed that two sides have maintained deep friendship and close contacts, and have been working together to nurture talents for hospitality. In addition, SEG showed their willingness to further cooperate with Yinxing and hoped to embark on a new journey of cooperation between the two sides.

Afterwards, the Yinxing-SEG International Hotel Management Talent Forum was held from December 3-6. Eight public keynote speeches and five themed seminars were given by lecturers from five hotel schools of SEG (The Swiss Hotel Management School, the Hotel Institute Montreux, Cesar Ritz Colleges, Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland, and International Hotel and Tourism Training Institute). Faculty of Yinxing actively participated in the seminars and shared their visions and ideas in terms of hospitality education.

The meeting has strengthened communication between Yinxing and the SEG, and laid a solid foundation for the future cooperation.

On December 30, 2019, the Nanxi Campus of Yinxing welcomed a soft opening. Distinguished guests from local governments, partner universities and industry, as well as Gingko and Yinxing’s representatives attended the ceremony.

The Nanxi Campus covers an area of nearly 600mu (35.3 hectare), with a building area of 139,000 square meters, including three world-class hotels, executive buildings, demonstrative area, service apartments and dormitories, canteens and restaurants, supermarkets and sports venues etc. have been completing as planned and will be put into use step by step. The new campus will become a brand-new high-end teaching and training base, cutting-edge research center for modern services industry such as hospitality and tourism.
