Marketing Summit 2021 

On December 15th 2021, the China Tourism and Accommodation Industry Human Resources and Marketing Summit 2021 was held in Chengdu. Yang Longtao, the Executive Director of Gingko College, and Xu Junyi, the Deputy Director of the Department of Hotel Management, were invited to attend. 

The summit focused on exploring solutions to core issues of manpower and operational capacity in light of the global challenges posed by the pandemic in tourism service industry in China, including in hotels, B&B, real estate, catering, and universities. 600 brands attended, and 1,000 industry elites gathered to discuss complex trends, engage with the pioneering views of industry experts.

Etiquette services provided in the summit  from Concierge Department of Ginkgo College 

Xu Junyi, the Deputy Director of the Department of Hotel Management, was invited to participate in the round-table forum "Chinese Service: Building the Core Competitiveness of Enterprises". Director Xu discussed the core competitiveness building of enterprises with guests. Quoting Gingko College's educational philosophy, Director Xu offered insights on the path to enhance talent development in the context of Chinese service.

The Concierge Department at Ginkgo College provided professional etiquette services for the summit, including check-in services, guidance, and ushering. All of the guests were touched by the professional skills and elegant spirit of Gingko students during the summit. 

Students from Gingko College participating in the summit actively communicated with the attending guests. During their time at the summit, they publicized Gingko College's philosophy, obtained first-hand industry information, explored the industry development trend, further strengthened their professional outreach, and promoted Gingko's influence.

The China Tourism and Accommodation Industry Human Resource and Marketing Summit 2021 was jointly organized by MaiDot.com, the business space industry and economic research media group, and Best East, the tourism service recruitment and job search platform. With the theme of "Enjoying Employment", and thousands of industry professionals gathering there, it was a great opportunity for colleges and enterprises to build cooperation, and for General Managers to communicate and share thoughts. The summit was also a key platform for those in Human Resources to obtain information on new talent, and for those in Public Relations to learn new market trends. In addition, authoritative honors for outstanding performance were awarded to the top industry employers and consumer-favored hotels of 2021. The award celebration not only commended the award winners but also promoted the overall development of the industry.
As one of the biggest events in the tourism service industry in China, the Best East Summit is a major platform for development and cooperation for high-level human resources in the industry. The summit offers an important opportunity to collect  opinions from senior industry experts, general public and media. The "Tourism Service Industry Employer Excellence Award Ceremony" was held at the same time, honoring benchmark organizations as well as outstanding leaders. These individuals and institutions were commended for professionals' outstanding achievements and provided authoritative guidance for the sustainable development of the tourism service industry in China.

On the morning of December 16th, Gingko celebrated its first Thailand Day. Mrs. Thippawan Supamitkitja, Consul General of the Royal Thai Consulate General in Chengdu, Mr. Waruntorn Kochtaropas, Consul, and Mrs. Kanokkittika Kritwutikon, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Chengdu, came to visit Gingko's History Museum and witnessed the signing ceremony for a university-level friendship cooperation agreement between Gingko and Naresuan University, Thailand.

Colin Martin Gallagher, Assistant Dean of International Affairs and Student Development at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism (FHT) at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, shared daily expressions for tourism in English with Gingko students through an online meeting platform, and carried out interactive exchanges featuring popular global tourism destinations.

『Tourism English Course and Study Abroad Program Presented Online 』

Three Thai universities have established university-level friendship cooperation agreements with Gingko College: Prince of Songkla University (PSU), National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), and Naresuan University (NU). Together, these schools presented their online courses in English for tourism, and their study abroad programs. 

The three Thai universities also shared their undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Hospitality and Tourism, Economics and Management, and Logistics and Digital Supply Chains. Although thousands of miles apart, Gingko students and teachers asked questions enthusiastically and the Thai universities answered them attentively. The productive exchange between the schools brought more possibilities for Gingko students and teachers to improve their qualifications, strengthen existing academic exchanges, and broaden their international horizons.

On the morning of December 17th, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Chengdu came to our campus and invited Gingko’s students and teachers to participate in an event centered on the theme "Amazing Thailand - Explore the Flavors". Mrs. Kanokkittika Kritwutikon, the Director of the TAT Chengdu Office, attended the meeting and led the team in discussions with students and teachers about the development of tourism in Thailand and studies abroad there.

Also part of the event was a photo exhibition including pictures of Thailand provided by the TAT Chengdu Office, as well as pictures of Gingko students and teachers participating in study exchanges in Thailand.

Students from the Department of Hotel Management Achieved Good Results in the 2021 Global Best Hotel Hospitality Champions Cup

On November 26, 2021, the Global Best Hotel Hospitality Champions Cup (China Region) AICR Headquarters Global Selection Competition  came to an end. 16 competitors from Xiamen University, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Sichuan Tourism University, Gingko College of Hospitality Management, China University of Labor Relations, and Waldorf Astoria Shanghai participated. After a fierce competition, two sophomore students majoring in hotel management, Wang Jing and Wei Dan, achieved outstanding results. Under the guidance of Bai Yongzhong and Chen Xue from the Department of Hotel Management, Chen Xue won the top award in the region of China, and Wang Jing won third place in the same category.

The competition was held by AICR China Division, and aimed to select outstanding talents to participate in the global finals in 2022. The competition is carried out entirely in English and features a world-class lineup of international judges.

The International Association for Deputy and Front Office Managers of Luxury Hotels (AICR), founded in 1964 on the southeast coast of France, was established by front office managers of several prestigious luxury five-star hotels in France. Today, AICR has grown into an international organization active in 16 countries with 17 branches, dedicated to promoting friendship and exchange among its members.

Gingko College and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) Jointly Conducted CHE Certification Training

From November 20 to December 5, 2021, the Gingko College of Hospitality Management and American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AH&LA-EI) jointly held a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) training course for hotel professionals.
This international cooperation is of great significance for the college, introducing high-quality foreign educational resources, broadening further opportunities for international educational engagement at Gingko, and building the international education brand of hotel management. This is also the first certification course that the American Hotel Association Education Institute restarted after the pandemic.

The training was conducted in English by George Ubbelohde, a well-known education expert and trainer at the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. Mr. Ubbelohde's training focused on online and virtual teaching, the overall design of course syllabus, methods of determining course objectives, theoretical scopes of student learning, and methods of creating positive classroom culture. Through this training, teachers at Gingko further enriched their theoretical knowledge, mastered a variety of effective classroom teaching methods, and improved their teaching level and practical abilities. 

By participating in the "Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE)" certification training, our teachers can learn the theories, methods, and skills underlying hotel vocational education and training. At the same time, they can also obtain an important professional qualification certificate within the international hotel industry, and truly become "dual teachers" with a strong grasp of both vocational education and industry training techniques.

『 Students and Faculty of the Department of Tourism Management Participated in 2021 CIMERT Seminar on the New Power of International Conferences』

On October 23 2021, the CIMERT International Conference New Power Seminar was held at the Chengdu MUSTEL Hotel. More than 80 teachers and students from 27 conference and exhibition institutions across China participated in the seminar. The event was organized by the Center for International Meeting Research and Training, and hosted by Chengdu University. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the Chengdu Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Expositions), and Conference Magazine gave their support to the event. Participating in the workshop from Gingko College were Qian Yuwei, a full-time teacher in the Tourism Management Department, and Wan Fengjuan and Jia Zhuyuan, two outstanding student representatives majoring in MICE.

Participants were grouped to conduct seminars on the core contents of various lectures. Many participants offered their thoughts and expressed their own knowledge of the seminar, and discussed their ideas with other participants. A portion of each workshop was devoted to summarizing the seminar discussion. Wan Fengjuan,  spoke on behalf of the group, showcasing her talents as a Gingko student to participating teachers and peers. 

The Department of Tourism Management at the Gingko College of Hospitality Management was awarded the title of CIMERT Invited Research Member. This event not only helped our students and teachers broaden their international horizons, but also increased their understanding of the tourism industry.

On December 10th 2021, the 2021 International Meeting Industry CEO Summit and Global Conference Destination Competitiveness Index, organized by Chengdu University, was held in Chengdu. The theme of this event was “Deepening International Meeting Industry Cooperation in the Post-Pandemic Era”. Invited to the summit were international meeting industry leaders including the ICCA (the International Congress and Convention Association), senior managers and practitioners from conference and exhibition industry associations, governmental conference and exhibition management agencies, and conference and exhibition enterprises. Luo Zhengqin, Director of the Teaching and Research Office at the Department of Tourism Management was also invited to attend.

In order to fully integrate and share advantageous resources, explore the new methods of participation and collaborative innovation between schools and enterprises, and promote the advantages and mutual benefits between universities and enterprises, the conference established the "CIMERT School-Enterprise-Local Collaboration Alliance". The alliance aims to provide information sharing, business cooperation, research, policy consultation, industry interaction, and other services and resource-sharing activities to alliance members. It will promote deep collaboration between the government, industry, and academia, sharing research and industry resources to jointly output excellent results and talents for the exhibition industry. 

The meeting allowed the participating teachers to gain a more in-depth understanding of the development of international conferences in the post- pandemic era, as well as a more comprehensive understanding of the future development of the conference and exhibition industry in Chengdu.

Virtual MOU Signing Ceremony

A delegation from NU, including President Dr. Kanchana Ngourungs, Vice President Dr. Boonsub Panichakarn, and Dean of the School of Logistics and Supply Chains Dr. Vatcharapol Sukhotu participated in the signing ceremony, as well as representatives from the faculty and administration of Gingko College. Attendance took place both online and in-person. 

On the morning of December 16th, Mrs. Thippawan Supamitkitja, Consul-General of the Royal Thai Consulate General in Chengdu, and Mrs. Kanokkittika Kritwutikon, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Chengdu Office, witnessed the signing ceremony of the MOU between Gingko College of Hospitality Management (Gingko College) and Naresuan University (NU) of Thailand.

The MOU that was signed intends to provide the means necessary for the joint implementation of the following activities:
1. Exchange of teaching faculty, researchers, and students within the frame of special academic programs of short- and mid-term duration;
2. Collaboration and participation in seminars, lectures, symposia, and academic meetings;
3. Collaborations in academic and training programs, projects, and research activities.

This MOU lays the foundation for the practical promotion of cooperation and exchange between two universities and two regions. Both sides reached a consensus on a direction for future cooperation, which will provide Gingko faculty and students with opportunities for further education, including exchanges, cross-cultural communication and jointly-conducted academic research. The Department of Information Engineering at Gingko College will later discuss signing a MOA with the School of Logistics and Supply Chain at NU. This agreement would provide more overseas study opportunities for faculty and students in the Department of Information Engineering and facilitate carrying out higher-level exchanges and cooperation in teaching and research.

Naresuan University, established in 1990, is a comprehensive public university in northern Thailand named after King Naresuan. It has three campuses, including living, teaching and IT, with 66 bachelor's, 59 master's and 11 doctoral programs. It encompasses a total of nearly 30,000 students and faculty members, among which 2,300 are faculty and staff members, with a faculty-student ratio of 1:10.
Naresuan University offers higher education at undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. It has 16 faculties, colleges, and schools, including the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Nature Resources and Environment, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Science.

Conducted Online Course with Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism

In order to deepen the international communication between Gingko College and overseas partner institutions and further promote the internationalization of Gingko College’s curriculum, on November 10th and 24th 2021, two online courses were successfully held by the Department of Foreign Languages at Gingko and attended by 36 students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism at the Prince of Songkla University (PSU-FHT) in Thailand. Organized by Global Engagement Center, the courses were titled "Chinese for Hospitality and Tourism".

The two courses were taught by Mr. Sun Huayu, lecturer at Gingko College, and Ms. Huang Ming, Director of the Department of Foreign Languages. Mr. Sun and Ms. Huang took famous tourist attractions and the special cuisines of Sichuan as a starting point, and taught students important phrases in Chinese related to hospitality using role play and scene reappearance. The two courses lasted 3 hours each, and Thai students participated enthusiastically, commenting afterwards that they learned a lot of practical hotel expressions in Chinese.

Online course on Chinese for Hospitality and Tourism

This language course not only showed Thai students the rich natural and humanistic landscape of Sichuan, but also enabled Thai students to learn common hotel Chinese expressions necessary for check-in, check-out and taking orders. It is just one of a series of events at Gingko whose successes have deepened the friendship with, and promoted further cooperation between, Gingko and Prince of Songkla University.

English for Hospitality and Tourism

 Mr.Colin Martin Gallagher
From 1999-2009, Mr. Gallagher served as the Commercial Manager of Management Consulting Team, a leading London agency.
In 2009, he joined the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism at Prince of Songkla University's Phuket Campus as Assistant to the Dean for International Affairs and Student Development. He also serves as an English Lecturer, specializing in teaching Business English and Hospitality and Tourism English to both national and international students at the school. 

On the afternoon of December 1st 2021, the Global Engagement Center (GEC) invited Mr. Colin Martin Gallagher to conduct online English course for Hospitality and Tourism. Mr. Gallagher is Assistant to the Dean of International Affairs and Student Development and an English Lecturer at Prince of Songkla University’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism in Thailand. 

Mr. Gallagher not only encourages active learning and guides students in the classroom, but also focuses on practical pedagogy in the classroom setting, such as how to interact with students when teaching a foreign language, and how to motivate them. Prior to joining PSU-FHT, he had extensive experience in the hospitality and tourism industry, which allows him to incorporate first-hand knowledge into his courses.

On December 16th 2021, Mr. Colin Martin Gallagher's second online English course for Hospitality and Tourism was successfully held on the online meeting platform.

During the two online English classes, Mr. Gallagher shared English expressions in hotel and tourism with Gingko students and teachers, and taught them how to communicative interactively about popular tourist destinations around the world. Through situational exercises and online activities, Mr. Gallagher’s professional and authentic English expressions were well received by Gingko students and teachers, further deepening the communication and cooperation between the two universities.

In order to further improve specialty development in hotel management, on October 20th the Department of Hotel Management held a first-class professional development seminar on the theme of "Making Good Use of the Gingko-Standard Teaching Hotel to Train Hotel Management Professionals”.   

Xu Junyi, Deputy Director of the Department of Hotel Management, introduced the Standard Teaching Hotel. She remarked that Ginkgo College aims to cultivate excellent hotel talents, and said that through the seminar, Gingko could engage with thoughts shared by different enterprises and make the best use of existing teaching resources.

Guests expressed their suggestions for the theme of the conference, commenting that the experimental teaching center should provide students with a real hotel environment and be able to adjust to formal operation mode. Other guest suggestions including utilizing the advantages of the school's own resources to adjust students' perceptions of the hotel industry, exercise students' independence and initiative, improve their ability to relieve stress, and advance their career development, deepening their interest in the industry.
President Dr. Wei Zhao fully affirmed the ideas brought up during the seminar and reinforced that the next step will be to elaborate and implement specialty development reforms. He agreed to absorb the suggestions made by the hotel experts and make full use of the resources of the standard teaching hotel to achieve the most beneficial results possible.

Future Leader at the Department of Hotel Management is a program established to cultivate a team of high-end hotel management talents with solid professional knowledge of the hotel industry, a keen ability to analyze industry trends, and excellent management and operation skills. 
Since its establishment in 2018, Future Leader is open to all students with professional aspirations in hospitality management. The team has also set up a special school-enterprise course in cooperation with international hotels. The curriculum of this course is a product of joint discussions between hotel industry professionals and the school's professional team, and achieves a seamless connection between industry needs and school talent training. At the same time, the program also cultivates and enhances students' ideological and humanistic growth through various projects such as team-building activities, volunteering, and cultural exchange.
