At the start of the spring semester in 2021 when the pandemic was basically controlled in Sichuan, students have gradually returned to the College, operating under offset schedules and class staggering at the two campuses of Gingko College. The freshmen from the Department of Art and Design were welcomed to the Yibin Campus on 28th February, and the sophmores from the Department of Hotel Management also arrived successfully on 1st March. On 3rd March, the Chengdu campus was officially opened and classes were held according to plan. Gingko College students welcomed the start of the new semester despite the cold spring weather, and classes began on the two campuses in an orderly fashion.
With the development of disciplines at Gingko College, each academic department actively discusses and explores the feasibilities of interdisciplinary integration in the fields of hospitality, catering, and tourism. With the opening of the Gingko-Standard Teaching Hotel at the new Yibin Campus, the academic departments have made an important step forward in implementing the school’s ideology of "exploring the art and science of hospitality and services through fusions of subjects".

The combination of art and hotels is growing in China, and to some extent, the artistic aspect of hotels is indeed an ace in the hole to enhance taste and character. The crowd-pleasing nature of art can make it a great addition to hotels. The merging of art and hotels is an opportunity to usher in a new win-win situation, changing not only the typical experience in hospitality spaces but also influencing the future of local art markets.

Hotels are the embodiment of local cultures, and are often defined by local cultural characteristics. Infusing art and design elements into the hotel will generate and affirm a sense of cultural affinity and vitality—but to do so requires adapting appropriately to local contexts. In addition its deep links with the teaching hotel, the teaching programme of the Department of Art and Design will focus on this issue by using local tourism resources. This will include carrying out art collection and colour sketching from nature, creating artworks with local characteristics to depict the beautiful city of Yibin and the Gingko campus.
GINGKO ACTION
A professional teaching team consisting of professors and distinguished teachers with rich teaching experience are equipped, strong research capabilities and distinctive industry characteristics.
The Department of Art and Design will vigorously promote the fusion of the subjects and school-enterprise cooperation. A series of innovative talent training models were implemented, such as the "project-based teaching method". Other resources include learning by doing, work-integrated education in design, and holding exhibitions of graduation design works.
Department of Art and Design
Relying on the college's strengths in running schools, the Department of Art and Design is geared towards the needs of the cultural and tourism industry. The Department trains applied design professionals with high humanistic and comprehensive qualities for the industry.

The development of the hotel industry is changing rapidly. Managers within the hotel industry in the post-pandemic era face new demands, new markets, new consumption patterns, and new technologies. Practical experience alone is far from enough to predict the future development of the industry and stay on top of trends. To formulate strategic planning and ensure the professional development of management talent also requires foresight, comprehensive and systematic theoretical knowledge, and research capabilities. Industry experts have expressed their opinions and put forward very pertinent suggestions on what are needed for the executive development of hotel companies. Chengdu Gingko College of Hospitality Management attaches great importance to the research and development of curriculum content that closely combines theory and practice. This approach strengthens the training of experienced and knowledgeable teaching and research teams, and actively builds high-quality collaboration platforms with domestic and foreign industries partners. These partnerships have an extremely positive effect on improving the professional abilities of management talents in the hotel industry, and enhance the core quality and development potential of talent in the industry more broadly.

Mr.Marcel Damen
Mr. Damen believes in the significance of helping others in their careers. Based on the saying "teach others to fish and they will eat for a lifetime", Mr. Damen carefully selected books that have benefited his own growth on the road to becoming a senior management in the hospitality industry and generously donated them to the library at Gingko College for all students and teachers.
