一、“包图”的历史意义
上海交通大学校内的两座包馆，是由国际著名实业家、香港环球航运集团主席包玉刚捐款建造，它们分别是徐汇校区的包兆龙图书馆和闵行校区的包玉刚图书馆。这两座用包氏父子名字命名的图书馆创造了改革开放以来中国高等教育史上的诸多第一。
包兆龙图书馆是改革开放以来全国高校第一座现代化图书馆，是解放后中国内地第一家接受爱国人士捐款建造的图书馆，第一家采用个人名字命名的图书馆，第一所采用全开架、大开间格局的图书馆、第一家使用计算机管理的图书馆、第一个采用“图情合一”模式并在图书馆建硕士点的图书馆……
同时，这座图书馆的高度也非同一般！其建筑高度为73米，在上海仅低于国际饭店、上海宾馆和上海邮电大楼，居当时上海第四位。

二、包图建设的历史故事
1978年，中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理王震与六机部部长柴树藩出任上海交大第八届校务委员会主任和副主任，1980年，包玉刚邀请柴树藩参加新船“世欣号”下水及冠名典礼，10月下旬，柴树藩偕夫人陈欣前往日本大阪参加庆典仪式。包玉刚先生邀请柴树藩夫妇到后舱参加自助餐会，交谈期间，柴树藩向包玉刚提议为六机部直属院校上海交大捐赠一座图书馆或科研楼。包玉刚先生慷慨应允捐赠1000万美元。
1981年1月中旬，柴树藩、邓旭初（上海交大时任党委书记）携带设计草图前往广州与包玉刚会晤，达成捐赠协议。
由此可见，包兆龙图书馆、包玉刚图书馆是由柴树藩部长向船王包玉刚荐捐而促成的。
三、小平同志亲自关怀
在1981年7月，邓小平、王震同志在北京接见了包玉刚一行。在当时特殊的时代背景下，尚未有主动接受外援捐赠的先例，中国只有“援外”，一般不接受“外援”。
邓小平相当干脆地说：“别人怕‘接’出麻烦，我出面接受这笔捐款。”最终，他接受了包家1000万美元的捐赠，并同意以包玉刚父亲包兆龙的名字命名上海交大图书馆。
交大接受包家捐赠的举动，开创了新中国教育界接受海外捐款，和以个人姓名命名建筑物或项目的先河。
令人欣喜的是，包兆龙图书馆建成后，在闵行二部校区又建了一座1.4万平方米的“包玉刚图书馆”，这是包玉刚先生和柴树藩部长没有想到的。交大把包先生赠款结余了100万美元作维修基金后，余下的钱在闵行又建一个分馆。这也体现了我们交大人务实求真的精神作风。
抚今追昔，包玉刚图书馆跨越时空再次呈现在交大人眼前、重新为师生们服务。
交大图书馆与香港船王的故事
谈起上海交通大学的校园名胜，总有“包图”一说。思源湖畔、执信斋旁，两座现代化的图书馆巍然屹立，它们，一座高耸气派、一座酷似船舶，它们，一脉相承，遥相呼应，共同组成了交大文化名胜的华章。
4月8日，125周年校庆日时，经过修缮的包玉刚图书馆正式开放！

When it comes to special places of interest in Shanghai Jiaotong University, the Pao Yue-kong Library, with its two modern buildings alongside the Siyuan Lake and Zhixin Study, is a representative one. Carrying within their shape a whole wealth of significance and meaning the two buildings are cultural landmarks on the SJTU campus. On April 8th, the newly renovated Pao Yue-kong Library reopened its doors to the
public!
2. Historical Story
In mid-January 1981, Chai Shufan and Deng Xuchu (secretary of the Party committee of SJTU then) went to Guangzhou with a draft of the library space planning, and reached a donation agreement with Mr. Pao Yue-kong.
Without the proposal imitated by Minister Chai Shufan, the construction of the Pao Siu-loong and Pao Yue-kong Libraries would not have been conceived and achieved.
3. Solicitude from Comrade Deng Xiaoping
Considering the specific context of the early 1980s, no precedent existed in China for taking foreign donation. Instead of “accepting aid,,” China tended to offer help to our foreign friends at the time. Making an exception, Vice-Premier Deng Xiaoping accepted the $10-million donation from the Pao family and named the Library of Shanghai Jiaotong University after Pao Yue-kong’s father, Pao Siu-loong.
After the completion of the Pao Siu-loong Library: another 14,000-square-meter project that later became the Pao Yue-kong Library started on the second campus in Minhang. After saving and setting aside a surplus of $1 million for future maintenance cost , Jiaotong University used the remaining money to build a branch library in Minhang, in a spirit reflecting SJTUers’ characteristic pragmatism.
Now, the Pao Yue-kong Library has been revived to serve our faculty and students across time and space.
1. Historical Significance As for Pao Siu-loong Library, it is the first modern university library in China since the reform and opening-up; the first mainland library which was built on the donations from patriots; the first library which was named after an individual, the first library with fully-open shelves and spacious structure, the first library equipped with computer management; the first library applying the mode of “combination of library and information”; and the first library that has a unit for master education. Besides, the height of this Pao Siu-loong Library reaches 73 meters, which is also quite extraordinary. In Shanghai, only International Hotel, Shanghai Hotel, as well as Shanghai Post and Telecommunications Building were taller than it, which ranked the fourth at the time.

走近包图的书架即有种纸张老旧的味道，翻开时，书页已经微微发黄、咔咔作响。你能说你不爱这时间积累的风尘吗？新图有精致的地板，华丽的灯光，而包图有一汪透过窗户即可尽收眼底的思源湖水。你能说你不爱那刷题时抬起头拥抱的片刻宁静吗？
我也数不清有多少次在思源湖旁背单词等待包图开门了，思源湖畔是个好地方，早上有打太极拳的大爷，没事了闲聊几句，从朱元璋聊到两广，从钧瓷聊到釉色，从国家战略聊到专业前景，就是喜欢这种萍水相逢遇知己的感觉。至今，我还留着那个大爷送给我的钧瓷，礼轻情意重，大抵如是。
电子阅览室说实话可是同学必争之地啊，冬天的时候暖和，而且还有很多插座~~所以座位可是要提早来抢的！我还记得大一的时候为了过水平考，经常来这里看老友记，老友记应该是很多同学共同的回忆吧！

这里也是我最常来的地方，走进这里，便是很旧的很旧的书的味道，我恰恰嗜其上瘾。我觉得，在这个阅览室里，单单是看那些书名就是一种享受。外面的一间比较多的是中国的小说家的书，走过过道，随意一望，便可望到王朔、莫言的名字；里面的一间多的是外国作家的作品，我还记得新版大唐狄公案在最下面一层，我找了好久好久~~

军事历史阅览室我来的不多，但是借过几次名人传记。还记得当时和领读者计划的小伙伴们去西南联大研学之前，来这里寻寻觅觅了好久的梅贻琦先生的传记~
到了本科高年级，自习必须要用电脑，我就越来越少地来包图了。但是每每走到思源湖边，我就会想起以前关于包图的那些记忆，若有天堂，那肯定是图书馆的样子啊~

在“跨馆预约”服务中，来回穿梭于图书馆主馆、包玉刚图书馆、李政道图书馆、徐汇社科阅览室和西大楼储备书库，对这些书来说实在是见怪不怪的小事。往往只需花费一两个工作日的时间，一本书就能来到离读者最近的分馆。但包图馆藏从主馆整体回迁这样规模的“大迁徙”，自然比一本书的“单飞”要复杂得多。
统筹负责的馆员除了要与包图修缮进度协调，还要为改造后的包图布局重新整理馆藏，除了要维护搬迁前后图书流通的秩序，更要想方设法将搬迁对师生借阅的影响降到最低。
nter-library Loan services are essential for books requiring transport from several libraries, including the Main Library, the Pao Yue-kong Library, the Lee Tsung Dao Libray, the Xuhui Social Science Reading Room and the Storage in West Wing. It usually takes only 1-2 work days to deliver books to the library closest to our readers. However, large-scale relocation like this is way more complicated than circulating a single book.
In addition to adhering to the library’s renovation timeline, our librarians are also responsible for making collection rearrangements for the renewed Pao Yue-kong Library.
Apart from keeping the circulation of books in order during relocation, great efforts have been made to
minimize negative impact on our faculty and students.

三、四楼阅览区：安静阅览区，尽量保持安静，如需与同伴沟通事情，请“快速”“低音”
五楼阅览区：五楼阅览区的位置较少，西面主要是学术报告厅和会议室，在这里，同学们可以轻声交谈，以不影响他人为主
六楼阅览区：寂静研修区，此区域说话声、敲击键盘声等都是不能出现的，是一个绝对安静的学习区域。

繁花漫天的仲春，与校俱始走过125载的上海交通大学图书馆迎来了建党100周年庆，亦迎来思源湖畔续航近30年的包玉刚图书馆空间再造后的惊艳回归与盛大开幕。“两弹一星”元勋、交大杰出校友钱学森曾回忆说：“那时上海交大图书馆在校门右侧红楼，是我每天必去的地方。”在这三庆汇聚的时刻，上海交通大学图书馆举行了题为“圕·流”的馆史展览，以激发学子读书成才之志、爱国荣校之心。
展览是上海交通大学校史展的有机组成部分，共分为四个篇章，“创始：敢为人先”“变迁：甘于奉献”“振兴：追求卓越”“逐梦：擘画未来”。全面展示了百廿又五载图书馆敢为人先、甘于奉献、励精图治、勇创未来的非凡发展历程。
展览所呈现的上海交通大学图书馆125的历史长河，筚路蓝缕过、鼎盛辉煌过、东迁西徙过、高歌猛进过，披沙沥金，流淌激荡其中的，正是那披荆斩棘、百折不挠、坚毅不拔、奔流不息之精神！这种精神与中国共产党人精神谱系水乳交融，必能鞭策图书馆人坚定信念、激流勇进、再创辉煌，也定将激励广大学子求知若渴、成人成才、爱国荣校！

The Pao Yue-kong Library has been fully operating since April 8th. In order to better serve our readers, the ground- floor Reception Desk is also open for sci-tech novelty retrieval and database reference search. For enquiries relating to disciplinary subject resource, seminar and training, our staff on the ground-floor Reception Desk are always on hand to help.

1. 建议一楼导引牌，标注索书号与学科的对应关系，方便读者查找书籍。
2. 希望可以在包图增设创咖的分站，这样在包图也能喝到物美价廉的咖啡啦~
3. 包图的某些楼层还是有些味道，特别是地下，希望能加强通风，增加绿植，既能净化空气又能美化环境，一举两得。
4. 可能因为包图的饮水机设备是全新的，所以饮用水有些异味，希望可以早日解决。
Suggestions for the Pao Yue-kong Library
1. Please consider setting up a guide board that shows the corresponding relationship between call number and subject on the first floor. This would make it easier for readers to find the books they want.
2. Please consider setting up a cafe in the Pao Yue-kong Library, where readers could take breaks and enjoy inexpensive but delicious coffee.
3. Some parts of the Pao Yue-kong Library still smell, in the basement in particular. We would like to remind the management team to monitor ventilation frequency, place more indoor greenery to purify the air and beautify the environment at the same time.
4. Probably because the drinking water dispensers in the Pao Yue-kong library are brand new, drinking water has some peculiar smell. Please resolve this issue soon.
