Dear colleagues and business partners:

Greetings! I would extend sincere thanks to your long-term trust in ROCKWOOL. Thanks to our collaborative efforts, ROCKWOOL has been deeply rooted in the Greater China market for more than 20 years, and has accumulated a strong business foundation and high brand reputation, which provides a good platform for the long-term development of our business.

On May 15, 2023, I was officially appointed as the Commercial General Manager for ROCKWOOL Greater China. I feel honored and privileged, but more responsibilities and missions on my shoulders. I will lead the ROCKWOOL Greater China business team to work with our business partners to promote the deep application of ROCKWOOL stone wool products in the field of fireproof, thermal insulation and energy saving in building and industry, and continue to contribute to social sustainability. In addition, we will continue to enhance channel construction, deepen channel cooperation, and jointly promote the influence of ROCKWOOL stone wool products among target industries and customers, with a goal of achieving satisfactory performance. On behalf of the ROCKWOOL Greater China management team, I would like to share the following with you.

Despite recent years have seen the important changes in the world's political and economic situation, a few major trends have remained constant, laying the foundation for our continuing operations in the market.

1) The world’s total population continues to grow and the global economy has been gradually returning to growth. The World Health Organization announced that the COVID-19 epidemic no longer constituted “public health emergencies of international concern”; Chinese mainland abandoned epidemic prevention and control measures, instead opened the gate to the world this year. As economic vitality is continuing to recover, it is still sustainable for the demand on the building market and industrial products.

2) As the second largest country in the world in terms of total population and GDP, China still has huge potential for economic growth; considering ROCKWOOL's current share of the “thermal insulation, fire proof and energy saving market” in Greater China, we still have huge room for growth.

3) Regardless of region, race, age and gender, humans have equal demands on health, safety and energy: that is, they always hope that the products used are more and more environmentally friendly, with higher safety performance but lower energy consumption. ROCKWOOL stone wool products feature excellent performance of fire proof and noise reduction, thermal insulation and energy saving, and still have a wide range of application prospects.

Despite the global epidemic raged in the past three years, ROCKWOOL Qingyuan plant still stood out via advanced technology and low-carbon environmental concept, and its operational indicators are being optimized; ROCKWOOL Yangzhou plant has been operating steadily, and providing satisfactory products and services for customers. To expand business, we will pay high attention to hot industries and strive to provide users with one-stop differentiated “fireproof, thermal insulation, energy saving and noise reduction” solutions. “Precision marketing” are achieved by finding the breakthroughs to the industry and customers, and enhancing the conversion rate of follow-up projects.

Admittedly, the external market environment has changed a lot. ROCKWOOL Greater China keeps its business philosophy and product innovation strategy close to the target market, with a goal of winning customers’ recognition by high-quality products and services, and cost-effective advantages. We are committed to promoting more and more customers to purchase ROCKWOOL products at reasonable prices; both our employees and business partners can also make good profits together. Those business partners who have the courage to work hard, actively promote our products, dedicate themselves to providing valuable experience, and continue to create excellent performance for themselves and ROCKWOOL will surely benefit from our future development in Greater China mainland!

Finally, I would like to state the common vision of ROCKWOOL Greater China on enterprise and channel construction: we will become a company with sustainable competitiveness and attraction in the market; and will become a company willing to work together with employees and business partners, love and trust each other, and collectively achieve a sense of fulfillment and excellent performance. As ROCKWOOL’s 51st production base in the world, the Qingyuan factory is the largest new production line project of ROCKWOOL Group in Asia in recent years. It introduces the world’s leading low-carbon electric furnace and a new generation of production process, and implements ROCKWOOL’s globally uniform quality standards and strict environmental requirements. It has become a leading green and low-carbon factory in the stone wool manufacturing industry. The Qingyuan factory utilizes innovative product design, not only enhancing product quality and performance, but also achieving a quantum leap in material health and safety.

ROCKWOOL Qingyuan factory dedicates itself to the green, low-carbon, high-quality production, demonstrating its commitment to providing the highest-quality fireproof and thermal insulation stone wool products to the Chinese market. It will also lead and promote the development of China’s stone wool manufacturing industry and play an active role in promoting the sustainable development of society.

On June 7th, industry experts including Mr. Peng Chao, Chairman of China Test Certification Nanjing Branch, and Ms. Shi Zhuo, General Manager of CTC Nanjing Branch, visited ROCKWOOL Qingyuan factory. Mr. Shen Liwen, Marketing Director of ROCKWOOL China, Mr. Zhang Qiang, Senior Product Manager and Mr. Tang Ping, Quality Manager of ROCKWOOL China received the guests and accompanied them to visit the Qingyuan factory, introducing in detail its production line and quality inspection.

Qingyuan factory enjoys the most complete product testing and experimental equipment in the industry, and implements the strictest quality management system of ROCKWOOL Group, with process analysis and product testing and verification controlled by a set of rigorous systems, aiming to provide high quality products to our customers. Configured with a series of advanced testing instruments, the Qingyuan factory can meet the requirements for stone wool products testing and control of the full performance laboratory and strictly control the chemical element composition of raw materials and finished products, thus ensuring the stability of the product's properties.

ROCKWOOL Qingyuan Factory 

Accelerates Low-carbon Process

It is an important initiative for ROCKWOOL Group to achieve the sustainable development by increasing the use of renewable and clean energy. In order to accelerate the green and low-carbonization of stone wool production, ROCKWOOL Qingyuan factory has recently successfully completed the laying of a distributed photovoltaic power generation system on the 30,000m2 roof, which is now connected to the grid. The project generates about 3.2 million kWh of electricity per year, that is, saving 970 tons of standard coals and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2,700 tons per year. It aids to achieve the goal of green and high-quality development of the enterprise while reducing the cost of electricity for production.

As ROCKWOOL’s 51st production site in the world, ROCKWOOL Qingyuan factory has introduced the leading electric furnace production line in the stone wool manufacturing industry, replacing the traditional coke heat source with low-carbon electric melting technology. Compared to traditional melting by coke cupola, the Qingyuan factory reduces carbon emissions by approximately 60% in the NGF stone wool production process.

It is worth mentioning that the metal roof of Qingyuan factory is covered with ROCKWOOL fireproof thermal insulation stone wool, which provides ideal installation conditions for solar photovoltaic panels. The solar photovoltaic panels installed will increase the mechanical load and fire risk of the roof. ROCKWOOL's roofing stone wool panels can be resistant to 1,000℃, ensuring that the fire prevention safety of the roofing system. In addition, ROCKWOOL roofing stone wool product has excellent resistance to pressure and point loads, providing the guarantee for maintenance and installation of photovoltaic roofing.

With the gradual promotion of clean energy, more and more roofs will be installed with solar photovoltaic panels. ROCKWOOL is actively responding to the trend of low carbonization in the energy sector and accelerating the use of clean energy. In addition, we urge that attention must be paid to fire prevention and loads, and safe and reliable solutions must be adopted to embrace the low carbonization of the energy structure when using the photovoltaic products on roofs.

Applied in  Ultra-low Energy Building

At the 19th International Green Building Conference & New Technology and Product Expo held in May, ROCKWOOL FacadeRock DD has received wide attention from participants due to its suitability to ultra-low energy consumption building fields. Ultra-low energy building, as a sustainable and green building suitable for the climate characteristics and natural conditions, can reduce the energy consumption of the building but improve the usage efficiency of the energy with the passive technical means, and provide a safe, comfortable and healthy indoor environment at the lowest energy consumption.

The FR-DD/FR-DD Plus is an original product of ROCKWOOL. Compared with traditional one, it has the characteristics of low overall weight capacity, high bonding strength with plastering mortar, good thermal insulation performance, and easy construction. It can be used in the external wall insulation system to reduce the weight of the system and further improve the wind pressure resistance and safety of the system, realizing the perfect combination of thermal insulation and energy saving, fire prevention and safety, sound absorption and noise reduction, durability and stability, and sustainability.

sino-German Ecopark 

Passive House

Sino-German Ecopark is located in Qingdao, covering a building area of 13,000m2. As a key cooperative project of Sino-German passive house, it is jointly built by China Academy of Building Research and German ROA and has become the passive house project with the most demonstration effect in China.

It is configured with ROCKWOOL stone wool with a thickness of 150mm to 250mm to guarantee the energy-saving performance of the project.

The ROCKWOOL FacadeRock DD is made of natural stones. It is a mineral fiber processed by high temperature (1450℃) melting and centrifugal blowing, and a non-homogeneous thermal insulation slab made by the pendulum method and special process. It is used in external wall thermal insulation system, realizing the improvement of thermal insulation and structural safety.

ROCKWOOL Provides High-quality Products 

and Supply for Fujian Wanhua MDI Project

Distinguished Wanhua Chemical Group Co.,Ltd. Fujian Factory introduced the isocyanate MDI device with annual output 400,000 tons into the whole production line and put it into production at the end of last year, being stable in production and operation now. ROCKWOOL RockTech SPI products for industrial use feature excellent performance of thermal insulation, low chlorine hydrophobicity and mold and rust prevention, effectively improving the energy efficiency and long-term stability of the MDI factory.

ROCKWOOL stone wool for industrial use is designed with high-quality raw materials and formulations, effectively avoiding corrosive sulfur-chlorine plasma. With stable acidity coefficient, it has no corrosion of metal pipelines, greatly reducing the late maintenance costs and the losses caused by downtime, contributing to the efficient operation of industrial equipment and creating values for the customers. 83% of the corrosion under the thermal insulation layer occurs in the pipeline, while 50% of the safety accidents in the industrial equipment is caused by erosion, corrosion and equipment aging.

Wanhua Chemical Group is the only enterprise in China that owns independent intellectual property rights of the whole series of isocyanate manufacturing technology. It accounts for nearly 30% of the global market share in MDI production capacity, making itself the largest MDI manufacturer in the world. As the 400,000 tons/year MDI project in Fujian factory was successfully put into production, Wanhua Chemical Group reinforced its leading position in the industry once again.

Energy cost is one of the major expenses in MDI production, accounting for about 10% of the production cost. It has been the main demand of project owners to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy expenses. ROCKWOOL high-temperature stone wool for industrial use has excellent thermal insulation property and can protect pipelines, valves, boilers and other equipment in the production facility from heat loss, effectively reducing the user’s energy expenses and promoting Wanhua Chemical Group to implement its low-cost energy strategy.

Case study

ROCKWOOL RockTech for industrial use equip four perfect features: high temperature resistance, good hydrophobicity, low thermal conductivity and high corrosion resistance. It can provide the highest level of protection for boilers, furnaces, distillation towers, valves, pipelines, and other equipment in petrochemical, power plants and other industrial production activities to resist heat and energy loss, thus avoiding fires, noise and other harmful effects. It is the most cost-effective and matured material in the industrial fireproof and thermal insulation field.

ROCKWOOL RockTech use natural stone as raw material, and adopts the leading production technology and formula design, effectively avoid the generation of corrosive ions. With PH value strictly controlled between 7.0-10.5, the content of chloride ions is less than 10ppm, and no corrosion of metal pipelines and equipment occurred, greatly reducing the maintenance costs and losses caused by downtime. Experiments have proved that ROCKWOOL stone wool has obvious advantages in thermal insulation, corrosion resistance and hydrophobicity compared with glass wool, aerogel, aluminum silicate and other thermal insulation materials under continuous harsh working conditions. In addition, ROCKWOOL RockTech SPI adopts the rigid structure and features higher compressive strength, which can support people stepping on it during inspections without causing damage to the insulation layer.

The Fujian Wanhua MDI project started piling in December 2020 and began thermal insulation construction and installation in October 2022, posting the challenges of tight project schedule and high material convergence and coordination. By overcoming the negative impact of the epidemic, ROCKWOOL production planning department carried out scientific planning according to the project’s construction progress, and ensured the on-time delivery of more than 5,000m3 SPI products within a very short period of time, which provided a guarantee for the project’s on-time production.

Both sides have already reached a deep strategic consensus on the application of thermal insulation in Yantai, Sichuan, Fujian and other production bases. ROCKWOOL Fire Duct Project Case Study

Located in Songjiang District, Shanghai City, ICICLE Fashion Industry Park has entered the indoor decoration stage and will be put into use soon. ICICLE, founded in 1997, is the first eco-fashion company in China. Over nearly 20 years of development, it has become an eco-fashion company with full business chain and multiple brands. The ICICLE Fashion Industry Park project covers a construction area of 96,000m2, including garment production, brand display, warehousing and logistics and staff leisure life and other functional areas. Since both the project owner and designer put forward high demand for fireproof of the building, ROCKWOOL Fire Duct solution was finally selected to provide support for the industrial park project.

ROCKWOOL Fire Duct selects specially-designed ROCKWOOL Conlit DuctRock product which has higher fire resistance. During application, Conlit DuctRock is simply fixed to the iron sheet ducts with special welding pins, and then affixed at the joints with aluminum foil tape. The system has passed the strict tests of various standards and reached the fire resistance limit of 0.5 hours ,1 hour and above. In case of a fire, it ensures that high-temperature smoke is effectively discharged through the smoke exhaust system and a low unexposed surface temperature is maintained, effectively guaranteeing the safe evacuation of people in the building and the conduction of firefighting and rescue.

ROCKWOOL Fire Duct solution combines mature application experience in Europe with domestic construction characteristics and requirements. The traditional fireproof board fire duct solution has complicated process, long construction period and low efficiency. In contrast, ROCKWOOL Fire Duct solution uses Conlit DuctRock to cover steel ducts, which facilitates construction, greatly improves the construction efficiency and shortens the construction period.

ICICLE Fashion Industry Park

Case study

In order to pass tests, it is common to use fire-resistant adhesive during tests in fire duct industry. But normally the fire-resistant adhesive is not used in projects due to construction and cost factors, it will cause serious fire safety hazards. ROCKWOOL Fire Duct uses specially-developed Conlit DuctRock. With a high fire resistance property, it needn’t to use fire-resistant adhesive, and the structure in the test report is consistent with the actual project. In addition, the product features good hydrophobicity and durable fire duct system, suitable for the fire ducts of various civil buildings, commercial buildings, public buildings and subway transit facilities.

It is worth mentioning that ROCKWOOL stone wool is made from natural stone and has long-lasting and stable quality performance, effectively guaranteeing the fire prevention safety of buildings and saving energy during its life cycle, and helping to promote social sustainability. Grodan, part of ROCKWOOL Group, is the world’s leading supplier of stone wool growing media solutions for professional greenhouse growers. Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) is designed to grow food and medicinal crops more resource efficiently than conventional soil-based cultivation, making it possible to produce higher yields using less water, less land, less fertiliser, and fewer if any chemical pesticides.

Why does this matter? Because the global population keeps getting bigger while natural resources shrink. Having reached eight billion by late 2022, the world will add another two billion people in the next 30 years, many of whom will live in urban environments. That means we will need to produce 50 percent more food than in 2012 to feed the world’s people.

Yet soil is being lost to degradation between 10 and 100 times faster than it is forming, while climate-induced water stress threatens productivity of conventional soil-based agriculture in many parts of the world. Controlled Environment Agriculture is key to supplying urban and other populations with fresh, healthy food for the future.
