The fundamental understanding of design and composition is something that shines through as the foundation in Maria’s work.
The structural qualities of her images are undeniably strong, yet they do not emanate any sense of emptiness that you might find in an uninhabited space.
Instead, there’s an endearing sense of familiarity about the subjects of Maria’s illustrations, even in her designs that focus purely on the aesthetics of architecture that has drawn her eye.

“I’m Maria, a freelance illustrator currently based in Berlin.”
“I’ve always enjoyed creating images rather than spaces most, hence my adventure with architecture ended right after graduating from an architecture university.”

ILLUSTRATOR

“These days, I specialize in digital illustration and art direction, focusing on both still images and illustrations for animation.”
“My background left me with quite a geometric and constructed look to what I do.”

“I’m also fascinated by colors. I always create each illustration in black and white first, to figure out the content and composition of an image, and later on, give myself freedom with colors, changing them endlessly and usually creating dozens of versions.”
“My Cintiq is an extension of my arm. I do sketch quite a lot, that’s how I start every concept, but I move onto Photoshop quickly. I give myself more of a consent for errors while working on the computer, on paper, there is no undo.”
